David Thompson
Greetings from my digital hub!
David Thompson is a multidisciplinary industrial designer and recent graduate of Carleton University’s Bachelor of Industrial Design program. His approach to design is rooted in systems thinking and a strong belief that design is more than just the creation of objects—it’s a way of understanding the world, solving problems, and making meaningful, user-centered change.
David applies design thinking across diverse areas including consumer products, furniture, soft goods, and mobility. He approaches every project with a foundation in research, usability, repairability, and sustainability. Whether designing a performance drysuit, a piece of furniture, or an everyday product, he works to develop informed, responsible solutions grounded in real user needs.
With a background in a wide range of manufacturing methods—such as injection molding, woodworking, garment construction, and metalworking—David tailors his material and process choices to each project’s goals. His hands-on experience enables him to prototype rapidly and make smart, production-aware design decisions.
In 2025, David earned Second Place Overall at the ACIDO Rocket Competition, a province-wide showcase celebrating Ontario’s top graduating industrial design students. His thesis project, Namik, was recognized for its technical execution, detail-oriented development, and real-world application.
David is passionate about design that works—design that not only functions but solves meaningful problems in sustainable, thoughtful ways. He’s excited to collaborate with like-minded teams and organizations that value innovation, cross-disciplinary thinking, and impact-driven design.
